A wide array of mini cameras, available because of the technological developments in electronics, may be carried by an RC plane or even a helicopter or blimp. With an RC airplane camera, you can more easily get a bird’s-eye view of the place where you live or where you fly your plane and have more fun while you are doing so.

Both still pictures and videos may be captured through the use of an RC airplane camera mounted on a radio-controlled craft. You will not even need to spend a fortune on the equipment needed for basic RC aerial photography since their prices are ever decreasing. All that is needed is some RC flying experience and knowledge on taking photos.

You can produce satisfactory results even if you use only a basic RC airplane camera setup. Many of the modern cameras available for this purpose can provide the additional advantage of in-flight video.

Where and how the camera is mounted on an aircraft will depend on the camera model. If you would like to use your RC plane or helicopter for aerial photography, then you might welcome a few suggestions about RC airplane camera operation methods.

You might not be able to find many choices of models available if you insist on a specialist RC airplane camera for your plane. Among the few specialist aerial photography camera models, a couple that are worth mentioning are the FlyCamOne2 and the Traxxas GoPro RC Hero. The GoPro RC Hero is a 5-megapixel camera designed specifically for RC planes, helicopters, cars, or boats. It has shock-reducing mounts to ensure great results whether you shoot from the ground or air.

A common and inexpensive option is a DIY camera and servo setup. You will get good results as long as the camera you use is at least a halfway decent one, but you will also need a spare channel on the radio system. The setup can be stick movement, with a 3-channel model and 4-channel transmitter, or a toggle switch or dial, with a 5- or 6-channel transmitter.

With an RC airplane camera, you should remember to keep it simple and keep the weight down. The camera you use need not be big or expensive. After all, you might even lose the camera in a plane crash. Thus, a 1 megapixel camera that takes pictures as big as 1280 × 960 pixels is quite adequate.
